What is the Mongolian word for "black"?
According to this site (http://www.omniglot.com/language/colours/) the Mongolian word for "black" is "xar" ("xap"). Is this true?

exact.
provided you know how th pronounce it: a rather rasping "harr", or in the transliteration used for Cyrillic: "kharr".
Incidentally, these letters look the same as ours, but they sound differently: хар
more examples:
хар зах (khar zakh) black market
хар тамхй (khar tamkhi) "black medicin"= drugs
хар ажил (khar ajil) "black work" = hard work
