What to do when a goddess you don't relate to chooses you in paganism?

You kinda really don't have much of a choice in those kinds of things, When I first started out on my path I searched for a type like Brighid or Blodeuwedd (sp), but further along I ended up with a darker Goddess that really put me to the test, and I've learned to really respect her for it.

Its not a good idea to look at these goddesses as 'dangerous' or 'negative', these goddesses have a different approach to life, and when they approach you, they feel you're strong enough to handle what's thrown at you. Its literally life with no sugar coating, but you'll be rewarded.

So just be strong, really. Don't let anybody scare you, and let her lead you, You'll figure it out.

OK, first, about me... I'm a follower of the Goddess, and I have some experience with what you are describing. Here's my take on it...

Various dark entities do exist, but they are not on the same level as the Goddess... they are lesser entities who are in fact quite deceitful and dangerous. What you need to do is get in contact with the real Goddess, and then, with Her help, you can begin to defend yourself.

There's considerable knowledge that you will have to either obtain by yourself or get from a mentor. For example, a lesser entity must maintain a portal somewhere nearby... which by the way is something the Goddess does not need to do. There are ways to find the portals and shut them down, and that causes the lesser entities considerable problems. After that, they will prefer to go elsewhere rather than mess around with you anymore.

Unfortunately there are not a lot of pagan clergy who know much about this stuff... for the most part they do more ordinary things such as weddings and funerals, counseling and teaching, etc. It's too bad you got into this particular sort of dilema, as I have known people who had a really hard time with this... and there have been casualties. You'll need to be careful and protect vulnerable family members and pets.. they can quickly become targets once the fight starts. But there's really no other choice, because anyone who allies themselves with the dark entities becomes a pawn in a game that eventually ends bad for everyone.

Edit - The Goddess is not intimidating or dangerous... those are signs of a hostile entity. They are very deceptive, and have often masqueraded as deities in order to gain control of people. The results were always disasterous.

Perhaps you just don't understand this goddess enough. Maybe you'll learn something more about yourself if you continue investigating her. I don't know why a goddess would call someone to service who was absolutely unlike her. What's the point of that?

Why do you consider her a "dark goddess"? Did someone just tell you that, helpfully labeling her? Gods, like people, are complex.

I wouldn't put a bit a value in a priestess telling you who your god or goddess is. What goes on between you and a goddess is between the two of you. Your priestess is coming very close to declaring herself a prophet in this case.

It's a relationship. When a deity picks you, it's often with reason - and very likely, you've got something to learn from them. That said, you don't necessarily need to follow one who picks you. Doesn't mean that it's going to be easy to get them to beg off, and you typically need to be particularly polite about the "thanks but no thanks."

I'd recommend doing some research on the Goddess in question - go back to original sources when possible, and even do some meditation to see what it is that she wants to communicate. If you're going to say "no", at least know who/what it is that you're saying "no" to.

I would probably ask her directly why she chose you since you can communicate with her. She might have interesting stuff to offer you.

However, you have a lot of imagination. Paganism is not a religion, its a term used by christian to qualify non christians. The above answer pretends I am pagan just like you. :)

Either go with this goddess or find a better one and she'll get the message.

If you're going to go up against a dark goddess, you'd better have the help of a god of light. Try Jesus.

Do you have a choice? YES! Yes, you most certainly do.

Now, I have no idea which goddess it is causing you so much trouble. Frankly, if you will receive the knowledge I am about to give you, it really won't matter.

What you need is a BIGGER God on your side. You need The God before whom this "goddess" will fall on her knees (if she even has knees) and tremble in abject terror. Let me tell you a story.

1 Samuel 5:1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon's temple and set it beside Dagon. 3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the LORD! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. 5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon's temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.

Dagon was the Philistine equivalent of Zeus. But before "The LORD", which is how English Bibles render the Hebrew Name "YHWH", Dagon was powerless. In YHWH's presence, the great and powerful Dagon could only fall on his face. And when Dagon's people had the temerity to try to stand him back up, YHWH shattered his hands (i.e. his power) and broke of his head (i.e. his authority).

Before YHWH, all other gods and goddesses are powerless. Their hands and heads are broken, and they must fall on their faces in worship of the One True and Living God.

Yes, I believe those beings exist. But there's a difference between believing those beings exist and believing they are gods or goddesses.

Think about the way this "goddess" treats you. This "goddess" has claimed you as hers! What right has she?!? Did she create you? Is this her universe? Why does she get to claim you rather than one of the other gods/goddesses? What has she ever done for you?

Doesn't her attitude prove that even if you do become hers, she will grind you into nothing? She considers you property, nothing more. And there's a reason for that attitude of hers. The truth is, she is capable of no other attitude. She is not just "dark". She is truly EVIL.

1 Corinthians 10: 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.

The gods and goddesses of paganism are fallen angels, demon spirits. And you, my friend, have become a target for one or more of these beings.

But there is One Who can free you from them.

Mark 5:2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

MK 5:6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!" 8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"

MK 5:9 Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"

"My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

MK 5:11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them."

When confronted by the presence of Jesus Christ, the very power and essence of YHWH incarnated, the deomns FELL BEFORE HIM AND WORSHIPPED HIM as "Son of The Most High God".

If you belong to HIM, then this "goddess" will be powerless before you. You will be able to rebuke her in Jesus Name and she will have to flee from you!!

When you put your faith in Christ and receive Him as Your Savior ... when become Born Again by the Power of The Holy Spirit ... you are transformed into a New Creation. HE will dwell IN you (see Revelation 3:20; First Epistle of John 4:13). And as His Child (Gospel of John 1:12), you will be His.

Turn to the God before whom this false goddess will be powerless.
