How to save without doing a mission in GTA V?

Whenever I try to save my game as Franklin at his safehouse and there is a F on the radar, I try to enter the house to go to the bedroom but it always starts the mission and never lets me enter the house. I know it's dumb, but I'd like to save my game without starting a mission! Thanks

    Switch to another character and go to their safehouse!

    There are TWO main ways of which i know work:

    1. Pull up your phone, which is UP on the d-pad or

    2. Go back to the characters safe house and go to the bed where you will have the option to save.

    Franklins iFruit (his phone). Just take out his phone pressing the D-Pad up. The app will be to the Left Middle I believe.

    There is a quick save on the phone, it's on the left middle.

    Get your phone up and on the left icon it will say quik save
