how do introduce readers to my stories time period?
I'm writing a story set in 1890's. there are a few hints of that in the book, (i mention the new silhouette, the introduction of jeans,) but I never come right out and say the book is set in 1890.
How do I establish that without coming right out and saying it?

Have the main character glance at a newspaper and see a headline about President McKinley giving a speech.
