Can I file charges against my soon to be ex wife for opening and reading mail addressed to my business? She has no ownership to the business?

Update:

She has also changed the locks to the home and withholding me seeing my son, my social security card, birth certificate, as well as many more items. She stated I can have all of those things if I give her more money. I have already given her almost 2,000 dollars to pay bills since I let her know I wanted a divorce about 4 months ago.

Update 2:

Also she is not letting me know who my son is with only that he is safe. What can I do?

    Not enough information.

Presumably the business mail is coming to the residence where she lives. Once it's there, it's delivered. Often, she'd own half the business anyway. If she's invading your privacy, you can sue her over that. It's no longer a "press charges" matter. And while you're married to her, it would be normal for her to open your mail at times.

We don't know how things like your home ownership are structured. If you need to get items and she's locking you out, you can call the police on their non-emergency line and ask for an escort to get your things while you sort stuff out. If it's your home too, the police should advise her to let you in.

What should you do? Consult a local divorce attorney. You're not "pressing charges." Before everything is done, I expect you'll be using a different business address. You probably should plan accordingly, likely involving a PO box until you get everything resolved.

No, nut you can put an address change in at the post office and notify everyone who sends mail to the house.

Order a new social security card by Good luckthe toll free telephone number (google it)

Order a new birth certificate from the county recorder where you were born

Regarding your son, file for divorce and get a custody order. Then you will have your son on your time and you can ask him who he is with.

Your wife owns 50% of everything you own. If you own the business she owns 50% of the business and has as much right, per the law, to open mail addressed to the business as you do.

  • Was it mailed to her home? Once mail is delivered, anyone can open it. If she steals the mail, you can have her charged, but reading it is not a crime.
