Do you like to read story-poems?

THE UGLY BROTHER lcf 2017

Donny was born at 5:59 and Johnny at 6:02;

Hard to tell them apart wrapped in baby blue.

Mom had little letters embroidered in their snugs

(And Donny screamed every time she gave his brother hugs)

They got matching train sets, and toy boats with little sails;

Donny like to knock Johnny’s train right off the rails,

And never let his sibling sail his boat in the bath…

But Johnny would just flash his guileless grin and laugh.

When they were 4 years old, they got a babysitter;

When she tried to put them to bed Donny fought and bit her

Johnny kissed her boo-boo, his big eyes filled with tears.

They went through many sitters over the next few years…

In middle school, Donny excelled at lots of sports;

But had a few black marks on behavioral reports.

Johnny got good grades but didn’t make a lot of friends,

Donny always kept on top of the latest trends.

    27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD,

    And all the families of the nations will worship before You.

    28 For the kingdom is the LORD’S

    And He rules over the nations.

    29 All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,

    All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him,

    Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.

    30 Posterity will serve Him;

    It will be told of the Lord to the generation.

    31 They will come and will declare His righteousness

    To a people who will be born, that He has performed.

    7 Let the sea roar and all it contains,

    The world and those who dwell in it.

    8 Let the rivers clap their hands,

    Let the mountains sing together for joy

    9 Before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth;

    He will judge the world with righteousness

    And the peoples with equity.

    Johnny B. Goode!

    Whoa. That had an unexpected twist. Great stuff, LC. Too bad things couldn't have worked out differently, but then the poem would be no good. Glad I took the time to read this---it was worth it.

    The boys still looked alike in every way,

    Donny told the kids the difference was that Johnny was gay;

    Or he would introduce his twin as ‘the Ugly Brother’

    (Never, ever, though, in the presence of their mother!)

    Every chance Donny got to humiliate or scourge

    His twin, he did; he thought Johnny didn’t have any courage;

    But Johnny didn’t take the abuse because he was scared-

    He did it because Donny was his brother, and he cared.

    In high school Donny got girlfriends easily with charm,

    But he played emotional games that caused some of them harm.

    Then in their senior year, Jenna Quinn moved in next door.

    Johnny fell in love with her, then and forevermore.

    Donny didn’t care, he thought Jenna was a bore,

    Because of the drab and somewhat shabby clothes she always wore.

    He only dated the popular chicks, the ones that rated ‘10’

    He laughed and said, “Yeah, I leave the rest for my Ugly Twin!”

    But then, at age 20, Jenna was the hottest woman in the town.

    Whenever he could, Donny put his little brother down,

    And then one night he put on Johnny’s clothes and went next door,

    He told himself, “I’ll say I’m Johnny and bang her right on the floor!”

    They watched a movie in her room- Jenna fell for it at first,

    But figured it out when she got nowhere trying to converse.

    Donny didn’t care much about “that human rights bullshit”

    And his sense of humor was rather lacking in wit….

    When Jenna said, “Oh my God! I can’t believe you tried that ploy!

    Johnny is a good man, you’re just a creepy little boy! “

    Donny went home and threw acid in his brothers face.

    Of the features that were like his own, there was no trace.

    Donny figured Jenna would like him better than Johnny now!

    That notion was erased when his brother said his vows;

    He heard from his room in the psych ward that Jenna was a mother.

    I guess we all know which of the two was REALLY the Ugly Brother.
