How do I copy a folder or copy a drive to an SD card thru CMD prompt on windows 10?

I am unable to load my windows due to a problem with a corrupted drive. I am able to boot with cmd prompt to get into DOS. I can see all the folders and files I need to move but I haven t done it in years and can t remember how to copy an entire folder. I am trying to move my desktop contents to my SD card. I m using xcopy c:\users\****\desktop e: ....with **** being my windows login name and e: being the drive of my SD card. When I try it doesn t work. I d rather just try to copy the entire drive to my 256GB sd card so I tried xcopy c:\ e:\ /h/i/c/k/e/r/y but that says "unable to create directory. What am I doing wrong? Please help......I have the black screen of death with only a cursor. As soon as windows loads it goes to a black screen with cursor. I can t do anything thru windows and it took me forever to figure out how to get to my command prompt and I don t want to leave it for fear I may never get back and lose all my pictures and things. Is it possible to copy my desktop contents to an SD card dusing DOS? Is it possible to copy an entire drive to another one. Thanks in advance. I know I ve asked a lot but I m at a loss. Please be specific or send me links....thanks

here is a link to Xcopy and copy commands

The other way would be to download hirens boot cd, burn it to a CD and boot off that. Run the mini windows XP option and copy off your folders to a USB drive that way

Have you tried fixing windows? presumably you have if you can get to the command prompt

    this youtube video may help

Doss is way too much trouble command prompt is way too much trouble when I can just insert a Linux Live CD or dvd and boot up a totally functioning operating system from the F12 and then stick in the external drive that I'm copying too and to what I've always done drag and drop files copy and paste if you want to learn command prompt and dos you're not going to learn it from this computer doctor I'm sorry but I'm telling you a much easier way and I mean it's much easier. Furthermore friend if you can actually get into the command prompt and run. Like you're saying that you can instead of going through all the nonsense that you're going through look up on the internet how to start system restore from the command prompt on Windows 10 run that command and take your Windows 10 back a couple days ago when it would run then you can use the Windows 10 to drag and drop without having to go get a copy of Linux

    Go into the safe mode

Put in the secure SD card

    Go to Programs files

    Highlight the Program files folder

    Click Edit

Click copy to folder (SD card)

Be sure the SD card is showing in the small window

    Click copy

You can now do the same for Programs (x86)
