I don’t know what model my car is?

I bought a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I’ve loved DSM vehicles since I was 16.

This eclipse is supposed to be an RS, which is base model. This is what the title says.

The RS doesn’t include power windows, cruise control, rear spoiler, fog lights, and has 14 inch wheels.

My “RS” has all of the above features, and 16 inch wheels. Just like the GS.

Ive tried to find out through my VIN number and haven’t found a website that either wants me to pay, or gives me any useful results.

The model wouldn’t be very important too me, except I need to know it for certain parts that it needs.

I’m just confused. All signs point to GS, but the title and private party said “RS”

The private party I bought it from were the first owners. They don’t me the maintenance they did but never mentioned adding any features or plus sizing the wheels.

The title says it's an RS.

    So it's an RS.

The original owner likely purchased an upgraded package.

Titles are often wrong, as are owners. It's clearly a GS. Only your VIN number will tell for sure.

Your internet search skills obviously suck. Here: https://vehicleidentificationnumber.com/vin-decode...

    Those "certain parts" are insignificant

Hi so over the years since this car was first manufactured previous owners may well have changed all those features. so as it is now some 20 years old. it would have lost several of it's horses from it's original spec. it will now only have about 30 %. of what it had when it left the factory 20 years ago due to wear.

It doesn't much matter if you have an RS or GS Eclipse. They both have the POS Chrysler motor instead of a real Mitsubishi motor which come in the GST and GSX.

Have you replaced the head gasket yet? They all were bad from the factory and a special metal head gasket was put out by Chrysler to fix the problem. Don't buy a head gasket from anywhere but a Mitsubishi dealer or you won't get the metal head gasket and will just end up with it leaking again. A special Mopar head gasket sealer spray is required to install the metal headgasket.

When the water pump fails It can cause the timing belt to jump and bend valves.

What is listed on the title is all that matters. It is officially an RS. Of course that could be a mistake so the only way to know for sure is to use the VIN to find out. I would think that the majority of parts would be the same for both the GS & RS.
