It never lasts very long. The words "arrest", "prison", "shot to death", "deal gone bad", and "ruined life" come to mind. There is no good future for these people or for the people whose lives they ruin.

Are we talking families pushing legal drugs (like the Sackler Family and Oxycontin) or illegal drugs....???

Illegal activity usually catches up with people. They could go to prison. May take a while, but bad things come (usually) to people who cheat.

If you deal drugs and cover your tracks, things might go well. But if your greed overrides your caution in such ventures, there are a number of ways things are likely to go wrong. Besides the threat from the law, that industry is not known for its noble practitioners. Edgy customers, vicious competitors, untrustworthy suppliers, and any lowlife who hears you have a stash can all get violent.

The schemer ends up broke and possibly in jail and takes the family down with them, to a point. Nothing wrong with wanting to improve your situation and earn money but do it legally and do it at a reasonable pace.
