Aussies. How is it when Australia is also called "Down Under"?

When there are 3 other countries that is more Down Under than us.

1. Chile

2. Argentina

3. New Zealand

It started with explorers setting off looking for land down under Asia, and of course they discovered Australia, Mathew Flinders referred to it as the land down under in his report.

so that's why we come from the land down under. great song as well.

    Pfhhh.

    Like we care.

Australia being called "Down Under".... whatever. You can call us Australia if you like, but Down Under is acceptable.

There was that 80s song, "Down Under", from the awesome Australian 80s band Men At Work... in 1980. I guess the expression must have already existed at the time, if Men At Work wrote about it.

I don't really care if any other nation is "more southern" than Australia. It's kind of a stupid thing to care about.

We're happy to be "Down Under". We're also happy to just be Australia.

In Chile and Argentina they speak Spanish so they would not be referred to as "down under" but as por debajo perhaps.

It means down in Hell. You can't fall any further. It's below the bottom of human existence.
