Can't decide on what engine to go with on Dodge Charger ?

So I see that there are a few different trims available. The base V6 is definitely more affordable but is it still fast? The R/T is nice...it has a 5.7L V8. Then I see the scat pack ( maybe someone can help me understand what that is? Im leaning towards the base model but if it isn't reasonably quick car then Ill go up a trim or 2. Any ideas?

    BOTTOM LINE -- " reasonably quick "

If you are talking about reasonably quick for street racing -- there will always be others that are quicker.  If you want to race, you need the biggest engine you can get.

If you are talking about reasonably quick is normal street driving -- the wimpiest charger is overkill.  I like "quick."  My fuel mileage is pitiful because I like driving "frisky."  At a traffic signal, at the line, when the light goes green rarely anyone will outrun me.  I am having fun....   and that is in a 999cc 3-cylinder Smart Fortwo.  In city traffic, 99% of people never put the pedal to the metal.

Go for the V8. If you go V6 , you might as well have a Camry.

But the V6 is still a million times better than a Hyundai Accent.

Take them all for a test drive- they are all very different. You appear to NOT be a car guy by these questions so you many not appreciate the higher HP version - I can tell you the 392B is a rush - fastest car off the throttle than any car I have driven (it will light the rear tires at 40mph) and I have driven 2020 Stingrays and F-Type Jags etc on a regular basis.

Save your money. The V6 model can exceed any published speed limit and it accelerates faster than any sane driver really needs it to, so it's fast enough.

Hyundai accent 6 speed manual is supreme

If you want acceleration, the V-6 will disappoint. It can not keep up with a lot of other V-6 cars. But it can be bought with AWD if you live in a place that needs it.

Now if you need to go 0-60 in the less then four second range, the 5.7 will do that!

If you keep the foot out of the throttle- that big V-8 doesn't do that bad. Road and Track claims the difference high way is one mile per gallon.

Honestly if you can live with a V6 there are cars that give peppy performance with that size engine. But the Charger is heavy and while the V6 is peppy enough for a non-enthusiast, it will not be enough for a gear head like me.

As for what the scat pack is, it is a set of prechosen options that are standard. Look at the Dodge site for specifics.

Save a few bucks and get a Mustang- it is lighter, cheaper and more bang for the buck

The V6 is fast enough for everyday driving.  The Hemi is a great engine.  Very durable but it does drink a lot of fuel.  I like to keep my cars for a number of years, so I would get the Hemi V8.   If you only intend to keep the car until the warranty is gone, then the V6 will do

It's only going to be a couple more decades, if that.. Before fuel is too expensive if you can even get any.. So you might as well get your cookies off while you can..
