3 year old I babysit wakes up to piss soaked pull-up. Is this neglect on the parents part? ?

Nighttime potty training and daytime potty training are two different things, because eliminating nighttime urination is a matter of brain maturity. It's very normal for a 4 year old to still need pull-ups at night. The fact that she's not even waking up bothered by a wet pull-up suggests she may need them for a while yet before she's ready to sleep in just underwear.

If her pull-up is that saturated, though, then the parents should either stop the nighttime sippy, or they should get a larger size pull-up to contain all the fluids. If she pooped sometime during the night she should be changed as soon as it's noticed since that can cause painful skin irritation (aka diaper rash), so maybe mom or dad should start checking in the AM before they leave for work. The unwashed bedding is gross, though. Poor kid.

pull ups are a waste of money.  they are not as absorbent or at least they did not used to be 8 years ago.  when you potty train and they go all day and just not at night.... put a good overnight diaper on them.  saves the bedding and you get more bang for the buck because pullups are more expensive.  they both give the child the feeling of a diaper so i just don't see any difference.  one you tape one you pull up.

If the child goes to sleep drinking a lot of fluids then their pull up will be soaked. In order to avoid so much piss they should not have any fluids at least an hour before bed. And mention it to the parents. 

If the kid is sleeping through the night, I don't blame the parents for not wanting to wake the child to change him. However, I do think there are things they can do so he's not absolutely soaked the next morning. I would wonder how long he's in bed without being changed, what's in the sippy cup, etc. 

Using the potty "very well" during the day does not equate being night trained.  Just under four is EARLY to be night trained.  It's completely normal for him to not have control over his bladder and bowels during the night.  He's sleeping.

What do the parents say when you discuss it with them? 

It's totally normal for a 3 year old to wet the bed at night.  The urge to pee doesn't wake them.

Have you discussed the excessively wet pull ups with the parents? Say something like "Hey I've noticed Buddy's diaper has been soaked through most mornings and his sheets get wet too.  Any thoughts on how we can manage this?"  

Umm.. Yes no yes. Sometimes it's just a medical problem. . 

Maybe the parents do work on potty training and the child has a condition. Iunno.
