  • is it safe to use tea-light candles without a candle holder?

i have a lot of gnats in my house and i've noticed they fly right into the wax and get stuck. i want to place a few candles all around my kitchen to kill some gnats, but i only have a few candle-holders. can i just set the actual candles on the counter? does the metal get too hot to be placed on certain surfaces? is it likely to start any fires?

  • did you ever think maybe feminists aren't actually angry?

it might just be the things you say to them that make them angry. weird concept, huh?

lol it's really cute how people say offensive things about women, and then they're like "well, why are all these feminists yelling at me?"

i'm a very happy person, but, yes, having my status as a human being debated and denied, tends to make me fly off the handle.

i think it would be great if all of us (myself included) could be a little bit more civil towards one another?

  • Personal property stolen in the Navy? What can we do?

My fiance was stationed on a Naval base in Illinois about 2 years ago, and he was staying in the V.A. hospital for a couple weeks. While he was in there his laptop computer was stolen from him. His petty officers told him they would investigate, but they never did. He never heard anything about it again. Earlier tonight he was talking about how his computer got stolen and I got pretty angry about it. The people in charge at the Naval base easily could have searched everybody's belongings and found the computer, but they didn't even attempt to. Also, he shouldnt have had to worry about his belongings being stolen on a military base. Whoever stole it should have been punished severely for breaking a serious law on the property. We have been calling people at the base all night trying to find out if there's anything we can do to get the computer back, or be reimbursed for the computer, but the first two petty officers we talked to were very rude, and one of them even hung up on him. Then he called the police department on base, and the woman at the counter said she didn't know if there was anything they could do, but she told us to call back tomorrow.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows anyone we could talk to, or any course of action that could be taken to start an investigation, or just to be reimbursed? We are considering a lawsuit if they won't do anything to help, but we are seriously broke, and we honestly can't even afford that. I feel like this is really an injustice. My fiance was a victim of a crime on a military base and there were no consequences for the person who committed the crime. We would really appreciate any help.

  • Why do you identify as a feminist?

Did you parents instill feminist values in you? Did you encounter sexism that made you realize something wasn't right with the way women are treated? Something else? What moments have woken you up and made you want to identify as a feminist?
