Do you know, what came first?

Marriage or Religion?

Update:

oh for the love of humanity!!!!

I should have added, please don't use the bible's adam and eve as a reference. It's like using the national enquirer as a reference for world news.

Woman centered religion has existed for at least 7,000 years. It is theorized based on the remnants of the goddess culture that what brought men into the spiritual realm and probably contributed to the development of marriage was the discovery that men had something to do with reproduction.

An ancient Greek story said that women became pregnant by riding horses too fast near the ocean. Later the sea-god Poseidon was created to explain the phenomenon in more conventional terms.

Marriage is designed for men to control THEIR offspring. Early society had no idea he had anything to do with it.

And the Bible says... Alien baby has two heads!

Religion came first because when Adam and Eve were created they were not technically married. When they were kicked out of the garden of Eden and began to procreate, their children formed religions. It was only when God formed the Israelite nation and gave them rules to follow did marriage begin and, I might add, it says no where in the Bible about having only one wife or husband, but mentions that when a man takes a wife, he shall leave his mother and father.

I would imagine that humans have always held some sort of spiritual beliefs, to explain their lives and fears.

I doubt that marriage was a priority a million or two years ago. The men would just find a woman and say, "Uggh, you mine". I'm sure monogamy was not always the norm in many societies. Early humans didn't reach sexual maturity till the age of 15-16, and the average life span was probably 20-25 so they had to get busy for their culture to survive.

Religion- In each person's life, it's a basic need to form a relationship. Even if you don't want to go back and figure which came first period, in life, it's always religion. We need a relationship and the relationship we build with God is the first one we have. Marriage comes later when we feel the need to have a relationship with a being that we can see.

Marriage as a way of controlling power and property. It was with the advent of Religion that marriage became common for the common folk.
