2002 ford explorer 4x4 light and jerking when turning wheel.?

i have a 2002 explorer the 4x4 high light started blinking the other day. Yesterday I went out and it was really hard to turn my wheels, everytime it was like 4 wheel drive was trying to kick in and it was jerking and making a weird noise. Any ideas?

    When was the last time you used the 4x4? Try engaging your 4x4 lo transmission and drive backwards for 15 ft, then drive 100 ft forward in 4x4, then turn 4x4 off and again drive backwards 15ft so the 4x4 traction disengages. Then try turning again and see if you have the same problem.

    Try jumping it again. Wiggle all (4) the clamps until you see them scratch the terminal. Leave them for 10+ mins. May want to rev up the vehicle doing the charging (1500-2000rpm). Take it somewhere and have the battery checked. If it still just clicks, but doesn't turn, try hitting the side of the starter (bigger metal cylinder part) with a hammer while someone tries to start it.
