What machine should I use to clean my living room's carpet?

My mom is going out of town next weekend, and I thought it would be nice to surprise to clean the house really well.

I want to clean the carpet in the living room/dining room/hallway.

She already owns some giant Bissel machine, but the floor never seems perfectly clean after she's used it. I thought maybe I should try renting a Rug Doctor instead, thinking it will do a better job.

So, do you think I should continue to use her Bissel (maybe trying a new carpet shampoo?) or do you think a Rug Doctor would do a better job?

Thank you. :)

I would agree totally with the previous post. I know that carpet cleaning sounds really simple but it is not. The only way you are going to get a brilliant result is to use a professional carpet cleaning business. Have a look at www.iicrc.org and find a company in your local area. Ensure they send a staff member who is IICRC certified in carpet cleaning.

This carpet needs a professional touch to remove and treat the excessive soap left in the carpet by the bissel machine, a toy in real life when it comes to cleaning carpet. Go to www.iicrc.org to locate a pro near you, ask the pro if thry use truck mount hot water equipment with rotary cleaning equipment.

I must say I am impressed by the folks on your answer. Use a IICRC carpet cleaner and request they use a rinse off product to remove all the dried cleaning agent that has been left behind by previous attempts at cleaning. Listen to these folks, they know what they are talking about.
