Will Hyundai still honor a recall years out of warranty & if I’m not the original owner?

My fiancé has a 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe. That model year was recalled I believe in 2011 or 2014 due to a poorly designed valve seal and gasket that allowed oil to leak from the engine into the alternator slowly killing it. We replaced the alternator once because of this now it’s happening again & I just read about the recall due to this exact issue. Would I be able to get Hyundai to honor the recall & repair our vehicle?

It's a recall, so yes. It's a defect by design so it should be covered provided it's never been addressed. If the recall has a time frame, then no. If it's a safety equipment recall, it's valid as long as the car is on the road. Not covering it could lead to a lawsuit against Hyundai. I'm pretty sure they'll cover it. Like Barry said, there's nothing to lose by asking them.

It depends on the expiration date of the recall and its specific wording.

i very much doubt it ..accept your claim and they open the floodgates to myriad of claims
