  • 17 year old caught shoplifting $180 headphones, need to go to traffic court?

I've learned my lesson, I've taken the time to look over what I've done and here's my story. I'm just wondering if I can read this some time during the trial (in traffic court)?

    Your Honor,

When you ask me why did I steal, I’ve asked myself that question everyday. As a kid, I have a lot to learn about life. I have yet to experience the joys and tribulations of life-To live and to love and most importantly, to learn. At the moment, what was I thinking? Perhaps, it was a sense of entitlement as I assume most shoplifters feel. Obviously, that is nowhere near to a sufficient conclusion. So I will try as best I can to express the aspects in my life that lead me to such a radical decision.

As a child born to an immigrated family, my mother is a hard working nurse at (insert Hospital) and my Father, a loving and caring stay at home dad since my birth. Parents, who have chosen so carefully which schools I attended. The city was no place to prosper as a child, so they saw it best for me to attend the best schools around. Where else could one find such schools other than the suburbs? As fate would have it, they moved my sister and I to the current home in which I reside in, in (Insert city).

However, it was no free ride. The necessary expenditures on our home and private education did not come easy. As of recently, my mother has come off of chemotherapy and has continued to work day in and day out. Why would one do this?

    Love.

It was always a matter of figuring out how the next month’s bills were to be paid. There was food to be brought on the table and mortgages to be paid. Why would one do this?

    Love.

So, why would I do what I did?

    Ungrateful, selfish desires.

As fate would have it, I did attend the best schools around-(insert private school) in (insert city), and (insert private high school) in (insert city). Private institutions where money seemed to flow freely among my peers-money my parents spent into the tuition and money I never had. It was always, “what did you get for Christmas?,” or “What did you get for your birthday?” Questions, in which I answered “Education of course!” Eventually, this answer degraded and devalued over the course of my life to the point where I eventually said “Nothing.”

As one can see, just as my answer degraded, my expectations and sense of entitlement to materialistic items increased proportionally. I became ungrateful, I became selfish, I became what I never wanted to be. At my schools, I pitied those who saw belongings as replaceable and cheap “things.”

Eventually, these replaceable and worthless “things” became my obsession. If they’re so cheap and replaceable, as I had interpreted from my peers, then why can’t I have them? This question echoed itself to me day after day until fate could only bear itself so much.

So your Honor, if you ask me what I got for Christmas this year, here’s my answer.

Wisdom. Life and things in it are only as valuable as I make them.

I wrote this paper, because there is something to be learned in everything. There is no bad thing in life, because I learned the most valuable thing I have in my life from this so-called “bad” event.

    Humility.

(inserts) have been used to protect the integrity of the institutions and cities that I am related to.

  • 17 year old caught shoplifting-what are the repercussions?

I got caught shoplifting, I behaved well. I attempted to steal $179 headphones...

under cover cop got me right when i was going to leave

took me to the back room

    went to the police department

got my pictures taken and finger prints scanned.

I was released to my parents an hour later after everything was signed

As I was waiting I was talking to the cop and he said not to worry because I'm only being filed under the same charge of a traffic ticket under the village ordinance rather than state ordinance.

I have to go to the traffic court on the designated date the assign for me

I'm worried about my future occupation...

I have ambitions, I recently sent in my college applications, plan to study accounting and become a cpa and then run my own firm after a couple years of experience.

I'm worried about applications of any kind...

I know these two girls that stole around $150 worth of stuff when they were 14, they were recently accepted into really good colleges, but theysaid they hired a lawyer, something I don't have money for...

How bad are these charges on me?

I would like to end this by saying that I am truly remorseful... I was being stupid... and a whole lot more other things...

  • 2011 automatic Scion tc engine brakes a lot?

My family recently bought the scion, and when I drive it and cruise around 20-30mph as the engine automatically shifts to a lower gear, it slows down as it does the shift and then goes faster after the shift-ergo engine braking (to an extent). I know engine braking is bad for the transmission err tranny, whatever the case. No automatic car I have driven has ever downshifted like that, that is to say the fact that I can feel the downshift in an automatic car. Or is it Scion's way of making its' driver feel like it's a legitimate sports car lol. (Even though it's everything but a sports car)-just looks like it, hey I don't complain when I pick girls in it.

Nonetheless, I'm just concerned as to how much of a threat does this pose to the longevity of the engine. When I was in the dealership with my mom, the salesmen even said that Scion was Toyota's way of attracting younger customers. As they get older, the main goal is for Scion customers to buy Toyota.

So in that case, my theory is that the Scion that we currently own won't last even 10 years as hoped for.

Please note: I have no knowledge in cars. Except for the fact that consistent engine braking in a car is bad. I know long time owners of manual cars use a combination of both engine braking and the actual brakes, that is to say, use the brakes to slow the RPM's to make the downshift smoother and what not. Feel like teaching me something about cars? feel free, it wouldn't hurt to learn something new

  • Should I buy a new car or just repair my current one?

Well like many of us, we all can't afford to buy a new car whenever we want and I am in that category. I have a honda cr-v from 1998. I just spent $600 this past summer to replace the front sway bar. (well that's at least what I think it's called... sorry for my ignorance on cars) Anyways, the catalytic converter is broken and makes a loud, embarrassing sound. And now I have to pay another $900 or so to replace the exhaust system. The engine seems to be healthy after 120k+ on it. The car itself isn't rusty or anything yet, and it's appearance is fine. Do you guys think it's time to replace my 12 year old car even though I don't really have they money, or should I just pay for the repair and assume that the rest of the car won't need future major replacement costs.

This is a tough decision :/

    Please put your input

    thank you guys

  • Abusive Dad and what to do?

Well I'm 16, my mom's a registered nurse and my dad is lazy dumb good for nothing immigrant who still can't speak proper english after 20 years. I yell at my dad a lot out of frustration from his poor english which affects mine, yes I understand that he's my father and all but I'm pretty sure the father is supposed to provide for the family not the other way around. My mom is a hard working CITIZEN, whereas my dad is lazy dumbshit who thinks driving me 4 miles to school is a lot of work. He doesn't provide for the family, I mean he cooks and cleans, but I could do that myself with my sister. I did that when he went on vacation to the Phillipines-his home land. We were perfectly fine and happy without him. Now that I'm done with my diatribe, just recently he threatened to cut my throat and all that good stuff. I'm perfectly fine with that because I'll beat him up if he even tries- it used to scare the **** out of me when I was a kid, but after working out and getting strong it's the least of my worries. Nonetheless he's still threatens with abuse and he does have abuse on his police record when he beat my older sister 8 years ago. So I was wondering if I can just my counselor and have my dad deported back to the Philippines. He has a permanent green card and I just don't want to go into foster care, because I would be perfectly fine with just my mom.

  • How to Pay off Business and Accounting student loan debt.?

Well I'm a Junior in high school and started thinking about future occupations. Also what I'm about to say might be stupid, because I am ignorant to the process in becoming a business man so advice would be much appreciated. I want to manage a company or at least be a leader of some sort in one. I don't know much about Business and Accounting degrees, but I assume they're separate 4 year programs. Which totals up a total of 12 years which I'm prepared to do. However I have to take on student loans so what do I have to do pay these off?

  • Compensatory Damages- Who ends up paying whom?

Well I was in a car accident 2009 when I was 15 years old in my aunt's car, my aunt was driving. I received a letter that says that her insurance policy will give me $25,000. So my parents, myself, and my aunt would sign the papers in court if I decide to receive this compensation. I want to know if my aunt has to pay any of that $25,000 because of this, aside from her higher premiums for car insurance. I don't want my aunt to be suffering from this :/

  • Weak Bench Press for High School Football?

Well I flew out of a car in 2009 (Freshmen year) and broke my collar bone, elbow, hip, and pelvis. So ever since then I've only been working out the muscles that I can, mainly my biceps. I'm a junior going in for the football season senior year. As of right now I can only do 135 twice and barely squat 200... Yea my chest is weak as hell as are my legs, tell me about it. My Biceps are 18 inches there's not not a lot of fat in my arm if any, I'm at around 10% body fat.

    http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e135/fmlygyfntc/...

and yea... that's pretty much all that I have :/ So do you think I could at least survive a football game if I play? I just got cleared by my doc to play sports last week.

  • May I take the AP U.S. History exam in may even though I'm in regular U.S. History?

I do 2 hours of REGULAR u.s. history every night for high school. All my friends in APUSH say they don't do anything compared to what regular USH has to do. They never have homework, just on the weekends. This Tuesday my class is taking a test on 1824-1840 (Jacksonian Democracy). That's just to let you know how far my class is. Anyways I already have 2 spirals filled with book and class notes. I KNOW MY HISTORY. I have a 100% in this class. I feel that I really should have been in APUSH this year but I wasn't eligible from my last year's grades... I know I should also prep for DBQ's which my U.S. history class has not or ever will do, i think. So if I wanted to get some college credit, is it a possibility for me to take the exam?

  • Being shy around the girl you like (I'm a guy)?

Every single time I start to get close to a potential girlfriend to the point where we're good as being labeled "together", I end up acting different around her and screwing up everything. It normally ends up being awkward... It's hard to explain I guess I start to "fall in love" with her, like I get shy around her and do uncommon things around her. I don't think I could consider that as "liking" the girl because the act of "liking" already implies you want to be with her. sooo how exactly do I fix this, so I don't end up being shy around a potential girlfriend?

  • Is your permit issuance date registered into the DMV database?

I live in Illinois, I just turned 17 and I still don't have my license...I got my permit in July, and I just got a certificate of completion saying that I can get my license. I know you are supposed to hold your learners permit for 9 months, but the letter of completion never said I had to wait. I have my 50 hours and I know a friend of a friend who got his license only having his permit for 3 months. He said they never checked his permit. So I figure I can go test for it... highly doubtful haha I'm only asking this question out of procrastination :P

  • Should I pursue A Career In Psychology?

I like to help people with bright futures but were introduced into a world that hinders their full potential in a successful life. For example, I know this girl I guess I consider her a friend, she wants to be a lawyer but she's only in high school (as am I) and has sex along with drugs and alcohol constantly and I routed this issue to the fact that her parents are divorced since her 5th grade and her mom is pretty negligent with her, and her she has disposable parental income to waste on parties=sex. However I identified her potential from the fact that we go to a highly reputable school that requires a test to get in, and she's quite the intellectual. I'm just afraid she may get into hard core drugs as she has been active in such activities and I confronted her about my concern and she let me know her inner emotions and trusts me with them. I can label people within 4 conversations (for those that I am concerned with) during school and identify their problems. It's these characteristics of mine that tell me to pursue psychology, but financial security is one thing that I fret in this career. Do what you love, love what you do. Go through all that schooling with student loans requires money in the end :/

  • Driving without a license for homecoming night?

I'm 16 and homecoming is coming up in October, and I just got my permit. I'm an honors student without a criminal record. I understand and accept all consequences such as an $850 fine, 20-40 hour community service, and I would die but any jail time hopefully not though. I don't see why I would get pulled over since I will make sure my car is fully functional. I.e. tail lights aren't broken, etc. I will drive the speed limit maybe 3-5 over, no drinking or anything. I know it's sooo stupid, but I've never been to homecoming before... is it worth it in the end?

    3) In how many different ways can three men and three women be arranged in a line so that the men and the woman alternate?

  • Girl Shyness? -girl answers only?

I had no other way to title this question, anyways when it comes to most girls it's super easy to talk/flirt with them...except one, just one. I met her in september of 2009 and didn't actually start talking to her until october. Eventually I started to get nervous around her every single time...probably because at the same time I started liking her. Now I've liked plenty of girls before, but this one is different, I normally don't worry about girls. We both like each other, that I know for sure, but I've hung out with her and her friends twice this month, but if it weren't for her friends it would be an awkward silence. So I guess what I'm trying to get out of this question, is when I do tell her this, and assuming that she likes me too. How would you as a girl react to this? I already have a feeling of her reaction, I'm just asking this for my own saneness.

  • Central A/C pipe in basement leaking!?

Now I have no idea on central A/C anatomy. Anyways I got my annual checkup and the guy said that my unit is leaking or something because the freon is low. I'm going to buy a new one but I can't until the guys come on June 3...awesome. So anyways I don't care if I break my A/C but what I'm afraid is the leakage in the basement. I guess there's only one pipe connected into the house, and it's this black rubbery thing and water (or freon idk) is leaking out. Since it's hooked up into the furnace to circulate the cold air, I'm afraid that this leaking water or whatever is leaking into my furnace too! which I just bought for $3000 last winter... But It's averages 90 degrees everyday and I need A/C. So please tell me if I should turn my A/C/ off.
