    The Themes of Ashoura

By: The Religious Authority Grand Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Husayn Fadlullah

The Ashoura tragedy blurs the struggle and the person overshadows the symbol that it turns into rivers of tears as long as one can remember instead of triggering storms of revolution. Also the emotional and historical conception presents it as a characteristic of the self, in such a way that the broad cause becomes a personal affair instead of the opposite in which the movement of the self is a product of the cause.

This atmosphere has made the commemoration acquire a kind of tradition in the popular and historical reality that it turned out to be a mere popular tradition of emotional tragedy, pride in heroism, and absorption by excitement. In each period, the emotion has been nurtured with new tidings and analyses till the truth has got lost in a flood of lies, and imagination has been set off without restraint that the emotions have formed the significance of the tragedy. Also, a new context has been added to the intellectual content that can neither apply to original Islam nor does it relate to the main issue.

  • Did you know the Saudi is bombing poison in Yemen?

    Mon, 09 Nov 2009 09:41:44 GMT

    A phosphorous bomb (archive photo)

Houthi fighters in Yemen say Saudi fighter jets are using phosphorous bombs to back a deadly Yemeni government offensive against them.

"Saudi combat fighter jets launched intense raids against border areas inside Yemeni territory on Sunday night," the fighters' spokesman Mohammad Abdessalam told AFP by telephone.

"The Saudi military used phosphorus bombs during those night raids, burning mountainous regions," he said adding that "The Saudi air raids resumed this morning (Monday). "

Abdessalam said that the raids targeted Malaheez, seven kilometers (3.8 miles) inside Yemen, as well as the border villages of Hassameh and Shida and several villages around Jebel (mountain) al-Dukhan straddling the border.

The Saudi air force launched its deadly offensive against Houthis seven days ago, accusing the resistance Shia fighters of killing two Saudi soldiers on the border.

While Riyadh claims that its offensive targeted Houthi positions on 'Saudi territory', the fighters say Yemeni villages are the main target of heavy bombings.

The developments comes as Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh has declared that attacks against the Houthi fighters will be intensified.

The conflict between Houthi fighters and the Yemeni government began in 2004, but intensified last August when government forces stepped up the pressure against the fighters.

Houthi fighters say they have been defending their people against the Yemeni government that has marginalized them economically and politically.

Egypt Grand Mufti: It is permissible to use Shia Jurisprudence

Egypt's Grand Mufti, Ali Gomaa expressed that it is permissible to use Shia Jurisprudence which is useful for Islamic Ummah and there should be no-blame for using it.

Egypt's Grand Mufti, Ali Gomaa expressed that it is permissible to use Shia Jurisprudence which is useful for Islamic Ummah and there should be no-blame for using it.

According to Egyptian News Agencies, Dr. Ali Gomaa issued a Fatwa (religious verdict) based on permissible use of Shia Jurisprudence and stressed: we should confess the progress of Shias and we can collaborate with each other. There is no objection to follow Shia school of thought because there is not any difference between Sunni and Shia.

The prominent grand Mufti referred to pro-Shia Fatwa of Sheikh Mahmoud Shaltout, the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and said: Islamic Ummah is unique until they pray in the same direction (Qiblah) and there is not any difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims.

"Enemies of Islam and Muslims try to cut union and coalition of Muslims. They look for Shia books to find some differences to encounter Shia and Sunni" Ali Gomaa affirmed, "This is a big mistake and everyone should be aware of enemies' conspiracies".

Sheikh Ali Gomaa (Arabic:علي جمعة ‘Alī Jum‘ah) is the Grand Mufti of Egypt through Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah succeeding Ahmad El-Tayeb. He has been called "one of the most widely respected jurists in the Sunni Muslim world,"

  • Do you know that Shi'a are the real follower of Sunnah?

For the sake of fairness, some scholars from those referred to as Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah (followers of the Sunnah and consensus) admit this same fact. For example, Ibn Manzur says the following in his lexicon Lisan al-Arab where he defines the Shias:

The Shias are the people who love what the Prophet's Progeny loves, and they are loyal to such Progeny.[6]

Commenting on this statement, Dr. Said Abd al-Fattah Ashoor says, If the Shias love whatever the Prophet's Progeny loves and are loyal to such Progeny, who among the Muslims would refuse to be a Shia?!

  • What Ahmed Deedat say about Imam Khomeyni - the founder of Islamic Republic?

    Sunni-Shia Unity

    A lecture by

    Shaykh Ahmad Deedat

The Following speech By Shaykh Ahmad Deedat, who is a world renowned scholar from South Africa was made following his trip to the Islamic Republic of Iran on 3 March , 1982.

    INTRODUCTION

In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) says "It is he who has sent his apostle with guidance and the religion of truth so that he may make it prevail over all religions even though those who worship false Gods may detest it" (Quran 9:33). Even though the United States, Russia and all the superpowers may detest it. Allah's promise is not conditional on the strength of the superpowers. In its widest sense the Islamic movement spans the entire ummah, in its narrowest it represents that part of the ummah which is most advanced in its struggle towards establishing Islam as a total way of life.

A few years ago one could not recognize a single leading edge in the Islamic movement. This was the bleak outlook which faced the ummah as history moved into the final decade of the 14th century Hijra. But the world was unaware of the Islamic movement in Iran. Iran under the ex-shah was beyond the pale of Islam. Iran was a blind spot. We were Sunni and our age old ignorance was deep and total, and thus when the Islamic revolution in Iran began to make headlines in early 1978. The bulk of Muslims, who called themselves Sunni, were caught unaware. The Shah's propaganda had then blamed the Islamic masters. The western media, and the Muslim media manipulated by the west, and the alienated regimes of Muslim countries had then dismissed the events in Iran as insignificant. All of us were slow in recognizing the new reality in Iran. There has been a systematic attempt at smearing Islamic Iran. And the western media deliberately promoted false accounts of the events of the Islamic revolution led by Ayatollah Khomeini who was indeed the founder of the revolution, and the leader of the Islamic republic of Iran.
