Scab on thumbs?

I have a scab on my thumb, and its been there for a long time. It got there because I always had to force my shoe on and it hurt my thumb when I was putting it on. And I started picking at it and it eventually became a big scab and it has been there for a long time. If I stop picking at it, will it go away? Can anyone relate? Also, will aquaphor help?

You have a callus, they are fairly common on hands, i have 4 currently from weightlifting without wearing proper gloves.

Yet I have had 2 others in the past, after i stopped picking them, they have slowly gone away. The more severe or large, the longer it takes.

A small one on my thumb 0.5cmx0.3cm circular took about 8-9 months to fade to a scar.

One covering the second knuckle (from tip) of my left index finger has mostly gone after 2 years.

So, yes, if you stop picking it, over time, it will go away.
